Selma Calheira’s Negritas are playful figurines in ceramic. The artist wanted to convey the hospitality and vivacity of the Brazilian people and created an ensemble of welcoming, smiling faces. Negrita is a nickname often used in South America as a term of endearment, to speak tenderly to someone.
The figurines are manufactured by hand at the ceramics studio Cores da Terra. Small colour and size differences can occur and are inherent to the artisanal manufacturing method.
